Our travels have brought us to the beautiful island of Barbados. Weather here is fabulous – about 30 degrees C everyday, and evenings stay warm as well. I have been hearing that the weather in MB and SK has been bitterly cold as of late – my thoughts are with you, but I am glad I’m not! Definitely not missing Prairie winter.
Barbados is an independent country, but is part of the British Commonwealth. As in England – the steering wheel in vehicles is on the right hand side, and cars drive in the opposite lane to Canada. There are just over 280,000 people living in Barbados, and tourism is the primary enterprise. The currency is the Barbados Dollar (BDS) and the exchange is converted at a rate of $1.98 BDS to $1.00 US. We are finding that the cost of food and lodging here in Barbados is much higher than in other vacation locations that we have visited. Our small jar of Skippy peanut butter was $10.00 US. The local people are very friendly, and extremely laid back. No one is in a hurry to get anywhere, very different from North America. Barbados’ beaches are the most breath-taking we have ever been on. Fine gold sand and clear turquoise water. Easy to see why tourists come to Barbados.
