We are spending the month of March on the Island of Oahu in Hawaii. Oahu is home to the state capital of Honolulu and over 85% of the state’s population lives here. John and I opted for the North Shore to get a more laid-back beach town feel. We are staying in a small town called Haleiwa, about an hour from Honolulu. It has a population of about 4,000 people, and is less commercialized than Wakiki.
The condo we have rented is compact – but we are on the top floor (fourth from the left) and the view can't be beat. The property is ocean-front with a fabulous beach area.
The weather is balmy – very warm, but there is a perpetual breeze coming in off the ocean to counterbalance the heat. The swells on the North Shore are a huge draw to the area. Surfers from around the world come to catch the legendary waves, though most of the championship surf competitions occur between November and February.
There have been a number of movies and TV series filmed on Oahu –
most obviously Hawaii Five-0
When we were out for supper last week, Terry O'Quinn was dining at a table behind us. He starred as John Locke in Lost, and is now a guest star on Hawaii Five-O. He and his wife live on the island.
This picture of Mr. O’Quinn is from the internet – of course, I didn’t have my camera with me!
